🐱CUT TO THE CHASE
How it ends
Ángela and Pablo reach the penthouse and learn the outbreak began with a girl the Vatican was studying. In the attic Tristana kills Pablo, and Ángela is dragged into the dark as the footage ends.
The scene you're dreading
The attic, near the end. Pablo puts the camera on night vision, and an emaciated girl attacks and kills him. It is a jump scare. Ángela drops the camera and is dragged away, screaming.
The dog
The dog dies, but only in a story. A character says it was put down, and the movie shows none of it.
It is panic inside one building with a jump scare near the end, and it ends when the footage does, so the last few minutes are the ones to brace for.
THE SHORT VERSION IS HIDDEN
How it ends, the scene you're dreading, what happens to the dog, and the bottom line. About twenty seconds to read.
What actually happens
A quiet night shift that gets a call
Ángela Vidal is a television reporter, and Pablo is her cameraman. They are shooting an episode of a show called While You're Sleeping at a Barcelona fire station, following a night shift. They go along with the firefighters Álex and Manu when an elderly resident of an apartment building is reported to be acting strangely. Inside her apartment, the woman attacks a police officer and bites him. Panic spreads, and the authorities seal off the building and quarantine everyone inside, residents and emergency workers together. More people start showing violent symptoms and attacking those around them. An official from the health department turns up in protective gear and says the infection looks like rabies and may have started with a dog from the building. The stairwells and exits are blocked, so a group takes refuge in a resident's flat and plans a route out through the basement.
As the outbreak gets worse, Ángela and Pablo fight their way upstairs with the infected behind them. They reach the penthouse and find religious material and evidence that someone was investigating something there. A tape explains that the penthouse occupant was working for the Vatican and studying a sick Portuguese girl named Tristana Medeiros. Her illness was thought to be demonic possession, and it mutated into a contagious infection, so she was sealed inside the building.
The attic and the last thing the camera sees
The scene people dread most is the very last one, and it takes place in the dark attic. Pablo changes the camera to night vision. Tristana, who is emaciated, attacks and kills him, and the attack is a jump scare. Ángela runs and the camera falls from her hands. Something pulls her into the dark while she screams, and that is where the footage ends. Because the whole movie is shot through that camera, there is no cutaway: you watch it through the lens until it stops. The credits follow, and nothing else plays after them.
The ending, explained
In the attic, Pablo puts the camera on night vision and Tristana attacks and kills him. Ángela runs away but drops the camera, and she is dragged off into the dark, screaming. The footage ends there. That scene confirms what the tape in the penthouse described: a girl the Vatican studied as a possession case, whose illness turned into a contagious infection that has now spread through the sealed building.
The post-credits ruling
There is no post-credits scene. You can leave when the credits start.
