DOG
Dog: fine
fine, no dog dies.
Ruling: Skip it if heights bother you, and everyone else can watch from a couch that stays on the ground.
Fall runs one hundred seven minutes, and most of it takes place on a tiny platform at the top of a TV tower in the desert. The tower is decommissioned and its ladders are severely corroded, which is a lot to ask of a ladder you have to climb back down.
The premise, briefly
Two friends climb a 2,000-foot abandoned TV tower to scatter a dead husband's ashes, then get stranded at the top when the ladder down breaks.

π±CUT TO THE CHASE
How it ends
Shiloh dies while fetching the backpack, and Becky keeps hallucinating that Shiloh is still with her. Becky pushes Shiloh's body off the tower so it cushions a phone, the message reaches her father, and she is rescued.
The scene you're dreading
Early in the climb down, the ladder breaks and Becky falls, then is caught by the rope tied to her and Shiloh. Shiloh pulls her back up, and Becky's thigh is cut.
The dog
No dog dies in Fall. A man's dog appears in the movie and is fine. A vulture does die when Becky kills it.
It is a long, anxious ordeal with a few jump scares, and the high-up shots are the hard part. Knowing Becky is rescued makes it a lot calmer.
THE SHORT VERSION IS HIDDEN
How it ends, the scene you're dreading, what happens to the dog, and the bottom line. About twenty seconds to read.
What actually happens
A recluse accepts an invitation to a very tall rusty tower
The movie opens on a mountain climb with Becky Connor, her friend Shiloh Hunter and Becky's husband, Dan. A bat startles Dan, and he falls to his death. A year on, Becky has quit climbing, lives like a recluse and thinks about suicide. She no longer speaks to her father, James, because he told her that Dan would not have grieved the way she has if the situation were reversed. Near the anniversary, Shiloh invites Becky to climb a retired TV tower in the desert, the B-67, before the demolition crew gets to it. Shiloh suggests Becky pour out Dan's ashes at the summit, to help her heal. Becky does not want to go, but she says yes because she hopes it will help her move on.
The worst moment comes early, once they reach the top. The two climb corroded ladders to a tiny platform, and Shiloh films for her YouTube channel and talks Becky into hanging off the edge for a moment. Becky scatters Dan's ashes. On the way down, the ladder breaks. Becky falls, but the rope tied to Shiloh catches her, and Shiloh hauls her back up. Becky's thigh is cut, and the next intact ladder is hundreds of feet below. The backpack holding their water and a small drone slips away and lands on a communications dish. The dish blocks cell signals, so Shiloh puts her phone in a shoe and drops it clear of the interference to message her Instagram followers. They spot a man with a dog but cannot get his attention. At night they fire a flare, and the men in the RV see it, then steal Shiloh's car and drive away.
Shiloh climbs down for the water and somebody else comes back up
On Shiloh's ankle Becky sees a tattoo that reads "1-4-3," the code Dan used for "I love you." Shiloh admits to a four-month affair with Dan that ended before the wedding. The next day, Shiloh climbs down on the rope to get the backpack, nearly falls and hurts her hands, and ties the bag to the rope so Becky can haul her up with it. Becky then dreams that a vulture is eating Shiloh's dead body. She charges the drone from the tower's warning light while a vulture attacks her, flies the drone toward a motel nearby with a written plea for help, and a truck runs over the drone and destroys it. Dehydrated and delirious, Becky has a clear moment and realizes that Shiloh fell onto the dish during the retrieval and died. Becky has been hallucinating Shiloh ever since.
The ending, explained
The next day, a vulture is gnawing on Becky's injured leg when she wakes up. She kills it and eats it, which gives her enough strength to abseil down to Shiloh's body on the dish. Becky types a text to her father on her phone, tucks the phone into Shiloh's shoe, and wedges the shoe against Shiloh's body. She then pushes the body off the tower, and Shiloh's body cushions the landing so the text goes through. James calls emergency services, and rescuers head for the tower. Becky and her father meet again and make up. Becky survives. Dan and Shiloh are both dead.
